Designing a Concrete Beam Using SUMO FEA Only

SUMO software interface displaying a structural analysis model of a concrete beam using shell elements, with reinforcement contour results shown in a color gradient.

Comparing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) outputs with traditional code-based calculations is a complex and comprehensive topic. In this video, I assess the Concrete Design and FEA capabilities of Prokon’s SUMO software to determine whether its results align with standard code-based methods. I also explore whether SUMO’s output can be relied upon exclusively for designing the flexural reinforcement of a concrete beam.

This content is best suited for structural engineers, civil engineers, and design professionals working with concrete structures. It will also be valuable to engineering students and practitioners interested in the intersection of FEA software and code-compliant concrete design.
